Suburban Life Stories: Mowing Patrol
on August 15, 2011I try to keep my mind occupied while doing the chores by thinking about video games. Some chores make it easier than others. I swear my backyard has the smoothness of the moon with all the craters and astronaut footprints all over it.

I’ve never understood the cultural love for English lawns. They’re unsuited to the climate, require a ton of unpleasant work to maintain (lawnmowers are noisy and smelly), and are useless for anything other than eye candy (and are not great even at that). They’re not comfortable to sit or lie down on, can’t be a home to interesting things like fireflies (if only because of all the pesticides that kill everything), and are generally only good for displaying conformity.
Why don’t people plant something like clovers instead? Or other native plants that look good and require no mowing because they’re naturally short.
Right on, man. RIGHT THE HELL ON. The ONLY time I spend in my backyard now is to mow it. There is no Xbox in my backyard so its functionality is limited at best.
Funnily enough tomorrow’s comic treads on similar ground…so to speak
