Ben Stiller’s Awkward Situations

by Cameron on November 24, 2008

I really hate Ben Stiller and all of his stupid movies.

Well, except Zoolander, that was awesome.

So this week’s comics are about the stupid awkward situations he gets up to in his stupid awkward movies. I don’t want to go to the movies to feel awkward, I have real life for that!

Oh and special quick cameo appearance by Annoyed Vicar this week!

The Worst Car Salesman In The World

by Cameron on November 17, 2008

“Do you want to buy a car”

For some reason I just started giggling. And then giggled some more. It was such a stupid, stupid idea. Five comics with one stupid line. Surely I couldn’t do it, it would be cheating, it would just be stupid…

Oh what the hell, here it is.

In an hour I did all five strips for the week (OK, there was a lot of copying and pasting, but still) and just giggled all the way through it.

I showed them to my wife that night and she said they were the stupidist thing I’ve ever done. They were dumb…and not funny and…for some reason she couldn’t stop giggling either.

Oh well, let’s see how they go in the wild, right?

Terry The Crappy Terrorist

by Cameron on November 10, 2008

Last weekend I went with my wife to Sydney for the weekend. It’s a nice town but I’m glad I don’t live there. Too crowded for my tastes. Anyway because it was a quick trip I spent a lot of time in airports. It was very nice to be able to show my wife what the Business Class lounge was like for the first time. They give you unlimited free muffins! I’m not sure I’m allowed to let that be known in public.

Anyway while waiting to take off and the little light to come on that lets you know it’s OK to turn your Nintendo DS back on, I thought of making a comic strip about a crappy terrorist. The problem with that is that the last think you should do while you’re on a airplane flight these days is draw silly comics about terrorists, so I had to wait until I got back home before being able to put pen to paper. But hey here we are!

I’m also spending more time getting the art right this week and I’m pretty happy with how things turned out. I’m going through 0.3m pens like they’re going out of fashion, but it’s worth it. Reminder to self: Make a banner ad for Funny Webcomic!

How I Would Have Ended Funny Webcomic

by Cameron on November 3, 2008

This week I’m making up my own endings to some movies. Some of these might actually be funny!

After some feedback from people on the webcomics.com forums I’m spending more time on line weight and getting rid of that ‘scratchy’ look. It means each strip takes a bit longer to make but I think the end result is worth it. I would love to know what you think!

Petty Crime Squad

by Cameron on October 27, 2008

We have cable TV at home, and I’ve had the week off from the day job, and Law and Order is on no less than four cable television stations…so this week we have the greatest Law And Order spin-off to have never existed: Law And Order: Petty Crime Squad.

I mean why does the show have to be on four stations? The retro TV station, the crime station, the drama station and even the women’s station. If you time it right you can watch Law And Order 24 hours a day. And damn it, if I wasn’t returning to the day job tomorrow I probably would do that right now.

My Web Comic

by Cameron on October 20, 2008

My intention this week is to do the worst web comic ever. Now some people would think that I’ve been doing this for a while so sorry if you can’t tell the difference. I want to put everything that annoys me about other web comics into this week – horrible art, unoriginal ideas, missed deadlines, stupid pointless autobiography – and then hopefully get back to making good web comics next week!

Note to new readers: I’m a lot better than this usually, honest! Go read through the archives and see! :)

Unwritten Man Rules

by Cameron on October 13, 2008

This week’s Funny Webcomic topic came out of left field, but I think it works pretty well all in all. Unwritten Man Rules are being written for the first time! If you are a man, you might need to know this stuff. I learned a lot of it the hard way. If you are not a man, then you should think about becoming one. You don’t have to sit down when you pee and nobody complains when you speak your opinion on things.

I’m gearing up for the 24 hour comic day this Saturday, so wish me luck! Follow my progress on my twitter link and watch me slowly go mad with a sore arm and a lack of sleep. Should be a riot!

Oh, Project WOnderful have given me the go-ahead to run ads here on Funny Webcomic, so please excuse any dust that arises as I try to blow the cobwebs off the…uh…that was a bad metaphor wasn’t it.

The Return of Bob

by Cameron on October 6, 2008

Well either I’m onto something good or I’m already at week six and having to resort to cheap tricks – it’s my first spin-off strip! Bob made his first appearance in an episode of Medical Drama Comic, and I thought it would be interesting to see if he can make it out on his own, so to speak. We’ll see how we go!

In other Funny Webcomic news, wish me luck ‘coz it’s entered into the Webcomics Idol competition. I’ll find out if I make the top 10 in a few weeks, so wish me luck! I’m not expecting to get into that stage but it’s nice to at least be in the running. So so many good comics out there!

Oh! You might have noticed that this week (and some of last weeks) Funny Webcomics are in black and white. I decided to forgo colour because it was adding way too much time to the strip process, and my whole philosophy with this comic was to get something out as quickly as possible. Color is great, and it’s something I can add at a later date, but for now my priority is getting the strip out on time, with regularity, and build up a nice buffer. I could either do five black and white strips a week or three colour ones, and I think more content is better than less content, right?

Would love to know what you think!

Wholesome Family

by Cameron on September 29, 2008

I decided to use my inclination to make smart ass comments while my wife watched Seventh Heaven for good use this week. The Wholesome Family are just so wholesome and happy and they communicate their feelings! Good lord, what a bunch of freaks.

The little twins are the absolute worst. The way they finish each other’s sentences and just kind of monitor everything going on around the house just creeps me the hell out. They’re also a bit too obsessed with Jesus and their love for their mother for my liking.

And the teenage kid, the one with the stupidly large eyebrows, he drives me nuts too. Just how clean cut can people be? Do people like this really exist? I hope not.

Annoyed Vicar

by Cameron on September 22, 2008

This one started off as a quick sketch. I just did this vicar head in the top left corner of a page and thought it was funny if he was crying out for the death of the Irish. Then I put a panel border around him and had a fun few days bringing this angry little bugger to life.

I don’t even know what vicars do, really. I mean, people really pay people to just sit around and talk to the locals? I can do that. Wait, I’m an anti social sod who sits inside all the time and can’t even stomach using a telephone let alone talking to people, scratch that. This is why I draw comics!

As happy as I am with the character and the comics that I did for him, I really wish I thought ahead and made a character that didn’t have a solid black costume! It made all the details I added to his arms and cloth wrinkles just completely disappear once I coloured him in. D’oh.

How are you enjoying Funny Webcomic, anyway? I hope you’re liking it. Tell me what your favourite Funny Webcomic strip is so far!
